My Sad Loaf of Bread

March 5, 2018 By Antoine

Sad Bread Loaf StandingThis past weekend, we found that the household had run out of bread.  With two growing kids at home consuming everything like human vacuum cleaners, it’s difficult to keep a little bit of anything around the house.  So, we are driving home from being out and about when Deidra mentions that we forgot to go pick up some bread.  Me being the baker that I am says, “I’ll just make a loaf of bread”, so the crisis was averted – temporarily. Cheap, Easy, and Homemade Veggie Broth

February 27, 2018 By Deidra

tree bloom
This is minor. Some trees have gone full bloom!

It’s that time of year again, although it’s not suppose to be. Pollen is in the air and the house natives are feeling it. So, broth to the rescue! I usually make bone broth, but we have no bones I’d want to use. Instead, I have a bunch of vegetable scraps I’ve been saving. And this isn’t just for sickness. You can use this for any thing you need to cook involving a broth. So, here’s the recipe for my frugal and super easy veggie broth. [Read more…] about Cheap, Easy, and Homemade Veggie Broth

Scrambled Eggs With Collards & Onions

Collards In Hydroponic System
Collards In Our Hydroponic System

This past Saturday I got the chance to go out to our garage and cut a few collard leaves off the plants from my hydroponic system. I have to say, it is quite a joy to go to your own garden and pull them fresh off the plant only to serve them up minutes later.

I won’t focus much on the hydroponic growing system as I will blog in more detail on this later. However, I do want to share some photos and the recipe from this weekend! If you recall from my wife’s post on Real Cooking, we may or may not have exact measurements because sometimes we “wing-it”, but I will try to give you a good place to start.  Besides, the way we season, may not be the way you season!

Almond milk
Have you seen the price of Almond milk lately? YIKES! That stuff is expensive. What if you could make it cheaper and with only two main ingredients instead of all that stuff listed on the bottle to help it have a long shelf life? Guess what? You can. All you need are a few appliances you may already have, some almonds (if you can buy them in bulk at your big box, whole sale, bulk buy, or warehouse club store you can get the cost down even lower!), water, and flavoring [Read more…] about Homemade Almond Milk

What’s in Your Cabinet?

February 5, 2018 By Deidra

Recently, I had a bout with the flu. I mean, I wasn’t actually diagnosed by a doctor; we were “snowed in”. But honestly, even if we weren’t, I Old Remedies Medicine Cabinetprobably wouldn’t have gone anyway. I loathe going into doctor’s offices. I’ve been in enough of them during my short time here on earth (more on that at a later date). Besides, everyone’s snotting and sneezing – you end up coming out with something you didn’t even go in with! But, I know the symptoms of the flu, and you better believe…I had the flu. Everything hurt from my scalp and skin to my bones. My head felt like it was in a vice, my lungs felt like I inhaled an ocean, the chills and sweats, couldn’t eat, all I wanted to do was sleep and I had the sexy Barry White voice to match (when I could catch my breath to talk)…it was bad. And as “tough” as I am, I was miserable.

So, what do you do when you can’t get to the doctor and you have cold or flu-like symptoms? Here, I’ll list some of my essentials that I keep on hand and works for us. [Read more…] about What’s in Your Cabinet?
