Our Journey: An Update To Our Update

May 2, 2018 By Deidra

land
Hope, prayers, fingers, toes, and eyes crossed!

So, just to check in on our update…

It’s been a while, and if you’ve been following our journey, you know that we’ve set our eyes on a piece of raw land. In our update post, we talked about how a housing offer that fell through led us to finding a piece of property that we thought we’d make our own. We were in the process of going though our “Due Diligence” – checking boundaries, soil testing, appraisals..and everything was checking out one by one until…

We set the date for our official signing toward the end of March. We were getting closer to the time and we were getting so excited! My parents were in town so I took them to the place we hoped to make our home. Things were all a buzz. The lawyer was finishing up his title search, we were in contact with the banks and getting prepared for closing when it happened. During the title search, there were unexpected heirs found listed as owners to the property.

*SKUUUURRRTTT* What??

Yep, somewhere down the line, the property was shared with some unknown heirs. And I don’t think that they were unknown as in, “coming out of the woodworks” unknown, but unknown as in “no one knew they also owned part of that property”. This meant that the heirs weren’t aware of any of the negotiations or even the fact that the property was up for sale. So, the whole process had to be halted until they were found and notified. And this is where we are. A holding pattern. Which is a great time to talk about patience.

Oh my goodness. If God wants you to learn a lesson, He doesn’t willy-nilly around with it. I am one of the most impatient people He’s probably created. In my mind, time is valuable and we don’t have a lot of it. So I want to get things done, and get it done now. God is constantly reminding me to “wait”. And it’s SO HARD! I’m not really a planner. Why? Because planning takes time! And “ain’t nobody got time fa’dat!” I’m sort of impulsive – “just do it!” is my motto. Ask my kids what I often say, and it’s Hourglass“Hurry up!”, “Get it done!” or “What’s taking so long??”. My favorite device in the house has gone from the “slow cooker” to the “Instant Pot”. LOL

That can be a hindrance, so thank God I have Antoine to balance me out. On a homestead, even where we are now, I’m learning that it takes time to get things done. Maybe the finances aren’t right this month to start that container garden project which means we have to wait. I know there will be a lot of waiting to prep our raw land (if all goes well it will be ours so I’m saying it’s “ours” now), which means it will be a while before I get my goats and ducks. I will have to wait for any trees we plant to produce fruit. Waiting will be the name of the game. And this is a pretty good learning moment for me.

Reminder
Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. – James 5:7-8

Lord, help me to be that farmer that knows how to wait. Anyway, we’re hoping that we are closer to closing. We’ve talked to a few people and they’ve said that with buying land, this is not uncommon. All owners have to be notified and given a chance to decide if this is what they want to do. So….we’ll wait…and pray. Hopefully we’ll have some better news soon.

What are you waiting patiently (or not so patiently) for, for your homestead dream? What have you learned in the process? We’d love to hear from you!
