Getting To Know Herman

June 20, 2019 By Deidra

Mrs Goat Lover on Herman

Saturday was another milestone for me on this journey. I spent that day getting to know Herman. He’s cranky and powerful. He jerked me around a lot until we got to come to an understanding.

Herman is our tractor. On our property trips, usually Antoine is the one to wrangle with Herman while the kiddos weed-eat and use “Grayson” to mow some of the lawn. This time, the kids stayed home (we had a super early morning practice) and it was just Antoine and I. After he made a few passes near the entrance of the property, he asked if I wanted to drive the tractor. Mind you, 1 – I don’t do lawn work, and 2 – I’ve NEVER driven anything bigger than our minivan, but I was up for the challenge.

Granddaddy Frank
Farmer, Entrepreneur, pipe smoker, and coffee drinker

I hopped on, and I declare I felt every bit of my paternal grandfather, Frank Brown, come out of me. He was a farmer and I have vivid memories of seeing him bouncing on his tractor. All I was missing was a pipe, suspenders, and a bibbed baseball style cap.

As dust and grass was flying all around, I felt such peace. Out there is truly where I belong. I know we are on God’s time, and I am not a fan of rushing time, but man….I just wish we could get out there sooner rather than later. Anyway, here are a couple of pictures and videos for you to enjoy.

Oh! Also while out there, we discovered the property is FULL of edible wild berries. We got to eat a few and bring some back for the kiddos as a treat. One day, hopefully I’ll be able to collect enough to make a jam. Had I known they were there, I would have come prepared!

Yum, berries!

Shew! Look at that!
Meadow
There’s a meadow at the back of the property. So peaceful!
Huge Oak Tree and Meadow
I call this tree the “Tree of Life”. It’s HUGE surrounded by soft grass.
