land
Hope, prayers, fingers, toes, and eyes crossed!

So, just to check in on our update…

It’s been a while, and if you’ve been following our journey, you know that we’ve set our eyes on a piece of raw land. In our update post, we talked about how a housing offer that fell through led us to finding a piece of property that we thought we’d make our own. We were in the process of going though our “Due Diligence” – checking boundaries, soil testing, appraisals..and everything was checking out one by one until… [Read more…] about Our Journey: An Update To Our Update

So, you’ve decided, you’re ready to start this homestead journey and for you, it’s going to require a bit more space. You let yourself imagine being on property with enough space to do all of your homesteading dreams – or what you can afford to do at the moment. If you’re anything like us, you could be thinking, “Good grief, where do I start?” One thing you might decide to do is find a realtor. But, should you just use any realtor? I mean, you met your mom’s friend’s sister once. And she’s so nice! Maybe you should just go with her – right? [Read more…] about So You’re Ready For Some Property – Are All Realtors Equal?

I’m BACK! With Golden Paste Too….

April 14, 2018 By Deidra

Hey guys! After a short break, I’m back! If you remember, my very last post, “Can We Talk: Illness On The Homestead“, I was talking about having a plan when things get a lil squirrely and someone gets sick on the homestead. I had just gotten out of a short vacation at Chateau D’ Hospital and felt that was a pretty interesting topic to talk about. Well, afterward everything went great….for about two weeks. Then I checked back in again – same symptoms, same treatment, same answer – “we don’t know what’s happening”. Anyway, here I am and by God’s grace I bounced back quickly – still standing. We still don’t know what happened, but sometimes you have to just look to the sky, say “Thank You” and not be worried about it. I’m alive and that’s all that matters. Anyway, I took a break from writing for a bit, but not from life for sure! [Read more…] about I’m BACK! With Golden Paste Too….

Can We Talk: Illness On The Homestead

March 12, 2018 By Deidra

Mug And SteamCan we talk? No really. Go grab some tea, coffee, water, wine or a cold one, get comfy and settle in. This is going to be long, but I think worth the read…Ready? Ok.

Sickness. It’s a part of life. There will be a percentage of us that won’t see more than a little cold. But there are others, like me, that will be diagnosed with a chronic illness that changes our lives one way or another. Maybe we have to change the way we eat, sleep, exercise, or just participate in life in general. Either way, chronic illness brings both change and sometimes uncertainty. Aloe: The Plant That Loves Neglect

March 6, 2018 By Deidra

My darling, Mr Green Thumb, can grow anything. He’s much like how his dad was – he can take something that was almost dead and spring it back to life. I, on the other hand, am Mrs. Brown Thumb. I kill stuff. Growing plants is just not my thing. I’ve tried before and failed miserably…except!

Aloe.

Aloe Vera Plant
Aloe “pup” happily being neglected.

I LOVE the Aloe Vera plant. Mainly because I can completely forget about it and it not only survives, but thrives. Seriously, it is the only thing in my house that I can completely ignore and it prefers it that way. Imagine that! The more I neglect it the more it loves me. We’re a match made in heaven. I started off with one plant and now I have four. I had five, but I gave one to my sister who is also a serial plant killer. I think the plant I gave her will be happy there LOL.
