Real Cooking

February 10, 2018 By Deidra

Cast IronHey y’all. Ok, so…you know all those great cooking and food blogs out there in the internet universe? The ones with exotic names, pretty pictures, lengthy yet inspiring back stories, recipes that are billed to be easy, but you never have any of the ingredients – or time?

Well, this ain’t that. LOL

Sorry to say. First of all, who wants that kind of pressure? I don’t. This family of mine can EAT and I can’t stress out about perfection on this section of the blog. The entries that will be posted are going to be in real time. This means my husband is taking pictures while I’m cooking and trying to get these hungry natives fed (or vice versa). We won’t have time to think through recipes, or run a test kitchen. It’s either going to work or it won’t LOL. It’s going to be about what we make at home for our kids and ourselves – some of our favorites and some stuff from our imagination. You’ll probably see some “left overs” being “rethunk” into different meals. And I’ll be honest, some stuff won’t have recipes or measurements – because sometimes we wing it. All I can tell you is “use your judgment”. We’ll tell you what we put in it, but it’s gonna be up to you to figure out how your taste buds want it to taste.

We don’t measure seasonings. We just sprinkle and shake til the spirit of our grandmothers passed whispers “Stop” in our hearts and minds.

And there probably won’t be long back stories. Because honestly, most nights we’re just trying to get home and cook so the kids can go to bed and Antoine and I can sit down and zonk out at the news and trudge to our room to get some sleep to do it all over again the next day.

So, basically what I’m saying is – this is going to be real cooking. Our kitchen might be a mess, the plating probably won’t be all that spectacular. But we’ll do our best to edit these photos to make it look like we are eating in a five star restaurant. Just know we aren’t.
