Barn in the fieldThis weekend the family and I went out to the property to do some tidying up. It’s been raining here a lot and couple that with our southern sunshine, a lot of growth has happened. Unfortunately, we don’t own any heavy farm equipment yet. So, we had to make due with what we could get our hands on, and at that moment, that was a truck and a brush hog rental. Stick, Steel, Manufacture, Modular….

July 23, 2018 By Deidra

Hey ya’ll!

I just wanted to do another check-in on our journey. As you may know, we closed last month on our property. Even after a 6 month, long, and tedious closing, I look back on it and think – “Man, that was the easy part!”. It seems as if we’ve been met by challenges at every corner. For a long time, Deidra, kept hinting at wanting a something to speed up the chopping of vegetables. I mean I thought we were doing fine, seeing as many times we help each other to cook. However, there are times when we needed to speed up our chopping.  So, one day I went online with the help of the wife and found the food processor below:

Trellising Those Cucumbers

July 16, 2018 By Antoine

PVC Pipe Trellis

Hey All. I hope you are having a happy Monday.  I just wanted to share with you a quick trellis project I undertook for our cucumbers.  It started out with me tossing some cucumber seeds into our second self-watering planter.  This one was unfinished, but I figured I had time to put the wooden cover on it later.  Boy, that was a mistake.  Those cucumber plants took off with growth and before I knew it, I needed a trellis! Banana Oatmeal Buttermilk Pancakes

July 13, 2018 By Antoine

Banana Oatmeal PancakesUpdated 02/25/2019: Made some adjustments to the recipe.  After looking back at it, the measurements were mixed up.

Lately, I have been trying to eat a little healthier. I have been cutting out a lot of the white flour items and replacing them with whole wheat flours. Essentially, I am cutting back on the carbohydrates (carbs) a little. The thing is that our bodies need carbs in order to properly function, so we cannot just completely cut them out.

As it just so happens, I love bread. Period. I love bread. On a recent visit to the doctor, I was told to cut back on the carbs a little and my response was like, “Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?!” [Read more…] about Banana Oatmeal Buttermilk Pancakes

Driveways & State Maintained Roads

July 12, 2018 By Antoine

RoadSo, the saga continues.  If you recall in our last journey update, we were working on access to our property. If you missed it, hop on over to the blog post about “Easements and Road Frontage” and check it out first.  As we continue to work on access to our property, things never seem to be as easy as they ought to be.  You would think that if you own your property it would be as simple as finding some dirt, rocks, and building yourself a driveway, but not so. The Lion’s Mane Mushrooms Project – Update

July 2, 2018 By Antoine

Lion's Mane Log UpdateHey everyone. I just wanted to give you all a quick update on our Lion’s Mane Mushroom Project.  If you recall back in April of this year, we went to one of our favorite gardening stores and purchased a log that was inoculated with Lion’s Mane mushroom spores.  Prior to this neither myself or Deidra had any experience with growing mushrooms [Read more…] about The Lion’s Mane Mushrooms Project – Update
