Don’t Ever Buy Land That Won’t Perc

February 8, 2018 By Antoine

Photo of the GroundSince we started our journey of purchasing a home again, we flipped back and forth on many things. At first, we were looking for a home with more than 5 acres and under $300K. Uhm, yeah…good luck with that in our area of North Carolina. That may have been the case about 8-10 ten years ago, but you would be hard pressed to find any homes with sizable land for cheap. Yep, a crazy crazy market it is around here. [Read more…] about Don’t Ever Buy Land That Won’t Perc

What’s in Your Cabinet?

February 5, 2018 By Deidra

Recently, I had a bout with the flu. I mean, I wasn’t actually diagnosed by a doctor; we were “snowed in”. But honestly, even if we weren’t, I Old Remedies Medicine Cabinetprobably wouldn’t have gone anyway. I loathe going into doctor’s offices. I’ve been in enough of them during my short time here on earth (more on that at a later date). Besides, everyone’s snotting and sneezing – you end up coming out with something you didn’t even go in with! But, I know the symptoms of the flu, and you better believe…I had the flu. Everything hurt from my scalp and skin to my bones. My head felt like it was in a vice, my lungs felt like I inhaled an ocean, the chills and sweats, couldn’t eat, all I wanted to do was sleep and I had the sexy Barry White voice to match (when I could catch my breath to talk)…it was bad. And as “tough” as I am, I was miserable.

So, what do you do when you can’t get to the doctor and you have cold or flu-like symptoms? Here, I’ll list some of my essentials that I keep on hand and works for us. [Read more…] about What’s in Your Cabinet?

Decisions, Decisions….

February 2, 2018 By Deidra

Two Paths in Field

Hey y’all! Deidra here. So, I wanted to share with you all a little of our journey.

We used to own our own home a few years back. Unfortunately, Antoine was caught up in the technology bubble bust and was laid off. While he had some time at home, he decided to build our first garden. We had two young children and a dog and we knew we had mouths to feed.

He was really good at it. He grew okra, tomatoes, cantaloupe, watermelon, strawberries, peppers….anything that could fit in our square foot garden. I think that’s when the bug really bit him. From that point on, no matter where we landed we tried to grow something. [Read more…] about Decisions, Decisions….

Our Journey Begins

February 2, 2018 By Antoine

Open RoadHello, hello, hello!  My name is Antoine and I would like to welcome you to our blog.  This is the first of what will be many entries by my wife, Deidra, and myself.  We have long talked about having our own land where we could grow our own food as well as raise our own animals.  We are not there yet, but in December of 2017, we decided to chronicle our journey whether we make it or bust!
